With one of the few truly rural locations on the F1 calendar, accommodation close to Silverstone gets booked up extremely quickly in advance of the British Grand Prix. Accommodation in the nearest towns of Towcester and Buckingham fills up quickly, though there is more on offer in the larger nearby centers of Northampton and Milton Keynes. The latter is our recommended place to stay for the weekend. Some fans even stay in London, Oxford or Birmingham, where you’ll find more options and better value, but with the drawback of a much longer commute to and from the circuit.
If money is no object, the best places to stay next to the track are at the Silverstone Hilton Garden Inn on Hamilton Straight or the new trackside Escapade apartments, some of which have exceptional views of the track but will not come cheap on race weekend. Nearby and also popular with both teams and VIP guests is Whittlebury Hall and Spa.
British Grand Prix Camping
Camping with your fellow fans next to the track is one of the most immersive and fun ways to enjoy a weekend at the British Grand Prix. The camping options at Silverstone are excellent these days, resembling more of a music festival with late-night discos and food trucks aplenty. Camping options include everything from pitches where you bring your own tent and equipment to pre-erected tents, motorhome pitches and high-end glamping.
Pre-Erected Tents, Glamping & Motorhomes at Silverstone with intentsGP
We recommend intentsGP for premium camping and glamping at the highly-rated Whittlebury site, a short walk from the circuit gates at Silverstone. Enjoy comfortable beds, on-site facilities, and a superb atmosphere with like-minded motorsport fans. intentsGP offers standard pre-erected tents for up to eight guests and classic glamping tents for up to five guests in their original village site, with power options available. In the VIP zone, you can choose from a range of premium glamping accommodation in cosy cabins, octopod yurts, safari tents and premium glamping tents. Luxury motorhomes for up to four guests are also available with all-inclusive hot breakfasts and evening meals.
Silverstone offers five official options for camping and glamping at the 2025 British Grand Prix, with options to stay for between 3-5 nights. All campsites offer toilet facilities and hot showers, and power is available (either included or at an extra cost).
Cartmel Fields (already sold out for 2025) is closest to the main gates and priced at £166-180 per adult for 3-5 nights, while Arden Paddocks offers large pitches for up to four people with electricity hookup included for £900. Silverstone Golf Club has a range of pitches with and without power (including the option to camp alongside your vehicle) and glamping tents, with prices for the weekend starting from £340 for two adults. Higher end glamping facilities are offered at The Ridings (very close to the track) and The Pop-Up Hotel, which is actually located inside the circuit grounds.
Silverstone Woodlands is the closest campground to the track and was previously the official campsite for the race. You can choose from “family” or “lively”zones, both of which have very good toilet and bathroom facilities plus places to buy food and drink. Full weekend access (from Wednesday!) to the Woodlands campsite for the 2025 British Grand Prix is priced at £129 for adults (16+) and £56 for children (aged 2-15) at the 2025 British Grand Prix. Pre-erected and glamping tents are also available. You’ll pay extra if you want to bring your vehicle or a motorhome.
Whittlebury Park is another recommended campground near Silverstone, close to the Copse and Becketts zones. Occupying the middle ground between hotel and camping, Suitehuts @ Silverstone offers standard or deluxe huts with ensuite bathroom, and is located a few minutes’ walk from the circuit gates. Milton Keynes
The largest town in Buckinghamshire is a great base for the British Grand Prix. Only about 15 miles (24km) from Silverstone, Milton Keynes is also well connected by direct trains from London. There are also regular shuttle buses from the train station in Milton Keynes to Silverstone on race weekend. The city centre is the best place to stay in Milton Keynes, as you’ll be close to both the train station and also plenty of shopping, nightlife and restaurants. Recommended hotels in Milton Keynes:
- Leonardo Hotel Milton Keynes
- Moxy Milton Keynes
- Holiday Inn Milton Keynes Central, an IHG Hotel
- Hotel La Tour
Northampton
Closer to the circuit than Milton Keynes but less lively, Northampton is another popular base for the British Grand Prix. The city is also served by trains from London, and has shuttle buses to the circuit on race weekend. Recommended hotels in Northampton:
- Holiday Inn Northampton, an IHG hotel
- Delta Hotels by Marriott Northampton
- Mercure Northampton
- Hilton Northampton Hotel
London
Bus and train services are available from central London to Silverstone on Grand Prix weekend, so it is worth considering staying in the capital, which has a much better selection of accommodation. Note that the transfer time from London to Silverstone is at least 2 hours each way. If you decide to stay in London, it’s a good idea to be close to Euston Station, which has fast connections to the closest large stations to the circuit, Milton Keynes and Northampton. when is silverstone F1 next year
Hi John, provisional date is July 7-9, 2017. This won’t be confirmed until closer to the end of 2016.
Hi, I’m an F1 fan in Northamptonshire about 11 miles from the circuit/ 5 miles from Northampton and I don’t mind putting some fans up at my house for the 2018 event from mid week through to Sunday. I have a double and a single room I can let people stay in and won’t be charging anywhere near the hotel/b&b prices. If anyone is interested please get in touch on 07821053099
Hi Reuben,
I may be a bit late on asking this so just wondered if your room was available from the Fri to Monday? Please let me know as soon as possible as I would be flying from Australia and not booked my flights or tickets yet.
Thanks
Hayden
Is it neccessary to book your Campingplace (woodlands/whittlebury) in advance? Or can we pay at the entrance?
Pretty sure you need to book your camping place in advance. You can book Woodlands via the Silverstone website.
I’ve just booked for 2024. Unfortunately, I have a tendency to be late to the party every year with many hotels sold out or charging exorbitant rates.
My 2024 is a little unusual. Travelling from the north, I have easy train access to Coventry, where I will be staying from Friday to Monday. My hotel is close to the central bus station, where I will get a National Express coach to and from the circuit each day, with the journey taking around an hour.
Staying in Coventry, I was able to find a reasonably priced hotel room. While the coach travel wasn’t the cheapest at £20 per leg (£40 a day) it isn’t unreasonable and still worked cheaper than staying in Milton Keynes or Northampton.
Of course, being at the mercy of public transport means I may not be able to stick around for the concerts but I’m okay with that. For those of us who can’t camp or drive I think I’ve crafted a decent little plan.
Sounds like a great plan, Garry! Thanks for sharing. Hope you have a great experience at Silverstone next year
